Under the direction of the Laboratory Information System Manager, responsible for coordinating the Laboratory Information System (LIS), instrument middleware, associated hardware, resources and related projects to support the Cone Health system. Promotes effective and timely support and communication to all relevant stakeholders regarding projects and resources related to the Cone Health network and department specific projects and applications. This support includes assistance in implementation of the LIS into new areas, implementation of vendor upgrades and other changes/enhancements to the LIS, and ongoing twenty-four hour support of the system.


Assists with the planning and assessment of information needs including software, hardware, network connectivity, and interfaces for existing systems (including middleware) and when applicable new systems. Also assists with the design and development of support of users. Supports the applications, operations, and delivery mechanisms within the health system for efficient operations.


Build, implement, and maintain all LIS databases. Maintain system configuration documentation for the LIS. Optimize laboratory reporting information by utilizing LIS reporting tools, providing value added management reports to the hospital sites. Maintains a deep level of proficiency and competency in areas of responsibility.


Monitors database maintenance and performs maintenance as needed following the guidelines of the vendor and/or department policies and practices. This includes back up support for pathology system. Tests and certifies new LIS functionality and fixes provided by vendor(s), including software updates, enhancements, and new releases.


Reviews and edits policies/procedures manuals and forms to meet all regulatory requirements for system operation, reporting, maintenance, and support, i.e. support of autoverification.


Assists with project implementation with staff and Cone Health Information Technology (IT). Identifies system related needs, defines scope and details of requests and projects. Serves as laboratory project team leader as needed providing LIS and technical expertise. Maintains project schedule as determined by organizational direction. Performs LIS system integration testing with other project teams.


Provides troubleshooting support for all users, escalating problems/issues appropriately. Assists with coordinating and resolving system issues for LIS and pathology system as needed. Independent travel to multiple campus locations required.


Takes an active role in departmental operations, and vendor user groups to identify, evaluate, and recommend enhancements and new functionality of the LIS for overall health system needs. Is self-motivated, well organized and communicates effectively with clients, vendors, and Cone Health IT department.


Assists with supporting PC?s, scanners, printers, and other LIS related peripherals within the laboratories.



Associates, Required**see below

Bachelors, Preferred in Medical Technology


Associates degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, or chemical, physical, or biological science


Associates degree in another field with a minimum of 60 semester hours specifically including, 6 hours of chemistry, 6 hours of biology, and 12 additional hours in any combination of chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology. Transcript with degree indicated must be provided and evaluated by laboratory leadership prior to offer.

3 to 5 years' experience in an acute care laboratory setting, Required

Minimum 5 years' laboratory experience including experience supporting a laboratory info system, Preferred


ASCP | ASCP AMER SOCIETY FOR CLINICAL or eligible to be obtained within 12 months of hire date.

AMT | ARMC AMER MEDICAL TECHNOLOGY B or eligible to be obtained within 12 months of hire date.

ASCP (American Society of Clinical Pathologists) certification or equivalent certification by one of the following:

AMT (American Medical Technologist) or eligible to be obtained within 12 months of hire date.


ASCP certification preferred.
