The Director is accountable for the management of the system wide exposures to loss through the effective use of the Risk Management process. This involves the identification of all entities, assets, services, functions or people who may be at risk for loss; the evaluation of the extent of the exposure(s) to loss, and; predicting the probability of adverse (financial) consequences. It is then necessary to apply the most appropriate means to eliminate, reduce and/or fund potential losses by retaining, transferring or insuring against losses caused by the exposure(s). |
1. Assume overall responsibility for the System Wide Risk Management Function to help assure that all system wide assets and insurable perils have been identified, assessed, minimized, treated and re-assessed by experience for program modification. 2. Direct the process of appropriate funding of potential system wide losses by assessing the Corporation's ability to avoid, reduce or control exposures; through appropriate self funded retentions; and the evaluation of status of the insurance markets, appropriate insurers and the selection of insurance service organizations who will provide the optimum benefits at minimum costs. 3. Direct the process of identifying, investigating and processing of all multi-line insurance claims. Direct the assessment of all known incidents which may result in liability for damages. Evaluate all information available through documentation and interviews about each incident including any insurance coverage and reporting requirements. Assure that all requirements are met and that the interest of the parties is protected. Assure appropriate claims resolutions through the defense, financial adjustments, release and settlements, and/or potential litigation. 4. Serve as the principal system wide liaison for litigation management. Coordinate the litigation process once the corporate agent accepts service. Assure that all contractual reporting requirements are met. Compare the validity of the named defendants to assure appropriate service has been made and that all parties have been put on notice. Facilitate the process of Service of the Summons, Answers to the Complaint, Pleading of Motions, Production of Documents, Answers to Interrogatories and Orders of the Court. Provide primary support to the defense attorneys and act as the Corporate Representative during trials. 5. Assure appropriate Guest Relations through expedient and courteous responses to all inquiries and demands from visitors, patients and/or their representatives. 6. Demonstrate personal accountability through availability, punctuality, and compliance with all system wide, hospital and departmental objectives and personal major work activities. This includes the supervision and evaluation of the Risk Management Specialists, Coordinator, and Secretary for the department. 7. Direct the compilation, analysis and use of data pertaining to incidents and losses and provide periodic summary reports to department heads and management. This includes the evaluation and selection of appropriate hardware/software upgrades capable of managing the composite needs of the department to maintain loss, trend, claim, litigation and communications data. 8. Provide system wide Risk Management oversight and consultation to all personnel for risks/exposures related to their unique functions and responsibilities. This includes the review of Contracts, Affiliation Agreements, Use agreements, Certificates of Insurance and Hold Harmless/Indemnification Agreements. 9. Direct the process of Risk Management education for Residents, staff and for departments based upon analysis of high-risk exposures by specialty. Use of focused loss prevention efforts to evaluate and recommend improvements in departmental/hospital policies and procedures. 10. Serve as Risk Management representative on the various system wide Committees. Also serves on other subcommittees as needed. |

Required: Master's degree in business, nursing, or insurance |
EXPERIENCE: |
Required: Minimum of 5 years Risk Management experience. |
