Overview

 
The Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE) supports the Triple Aim goals of Cone Health by providing educational support to care givers. Working collaboratively with staff in all areas of the System, the CNE identifies educational needs and plans and implements programs using a variety of teaching/learning strategies. These educational offerings range from patient population-specific curricula to one-on-one teaching sessions with individual nursing staff members. In all endeavors, the CNE promotes evidence-based practice and the Magnet culture by serving as a change agent, teacher, mentor, and coach. Talent Pool: Nursing

 

Responsibilities

 

 
Provide educational programs in collaboration with Department Directors and Clinical Nurse Specialists: Plans programs based on results of needs assessments, nursing department goals and objectives, and strategic planning. Implements programs in a cost efficient manner that meet the needs of employees working a variety of shifts. Uses a variety of ways to provide education, including lecturing, audiovisual materials, poster presentations and computer-based learning. Evaluates program outcomes data and collaborates with Department Directors and Clinical Nurse Specialists, providing feedback on employee participation, knowledge and skill acquisition and revision of programs accordingly. Coaches learners on methods to share new skills/knowledge with peers and implementation of new knowledge/skills into practice. Mentors and coaches new nurses, ensuring educational activities congruent with department and staff needs.

Applies theoretical approaches to teaching and learning appropriate for the clinical practice setting. Implements teaching and learning strategies that reflect adult learning theories. Implements teaching and learning strategies that reflect cognitive, psychomotor and affective domains of learning. Implements teaching and learning strategies that reflect Benner's novice to expert framework for the development of clinical expertise. Implements a variety of instructional techniques that promote the integration of theory and practice through critical thinking skills and reflective practice.

Demonstrates knowledge and skills in the clinical areas of responsibility. Acts as a role model in critical thinking application, interpersonal relationships and technical skills. Evaluates and assists with implementation of new technology, equipment and new technology. Acquires and maintains current certification in nursing specialty.

Promotes research and evidence-based practice through education and utilization. Disseminates information and research findings through formal and informal presentations within and outside of the health system. Identifies opportunities for nursing research initiatives and facilitates staff involvement. Participates in and uses evidence based research to identify strategies to improve outcomes of education.

Qualifications

 

EDUCATION:
Graduate of an RN Educational Program; Baccalaureate in Nursing required; Master?s degree in Nursing, nursing education or nursing specialty required.

 

EXPERIENCE:
Minimum three years RN clinical practice required.

 

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING:
REQUIRED

RN | Registered Nurse licensed in North Carolina or a Compact state.

BLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider

Certification is required in a clinical specialty as defined by National Certification requirements.

PREFERRED

ACLS | Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support

PALS | Pediatric Advanced Life Support
