Overview

 
Provides assistive patient care in the Operating Room under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse.

Responsibilities

 

 
Assists with patient care. Verifies selected data about the health status of the patient with the circulating nurse. Observes patient and alerts RN to symptoms, reactions, and changes in patient's condition. Assists the RN with selected patient care interventions in a manner that is consistent with policies and procedures. Anticipates physician needs/requirements preoperatively and postoperatively.

Assists with the surgical process. Performs basic scrub duties and table set-ups for basic procedures. Identifies instruments, checks equipment, and obtains supplies as relates to procedures. Maintains asepsis throughout procedure; identifies and corrects breaks in

Collaborates with co-workers to accomplish department/program objectives.

Contributes to unit operations. Identifies needs for changes in preference lists. Participates in quality assurance and improvement activities.

Demonstrates professional accountability. Demonstrates appropriate use of universal precautions and personal protective equipment. Demonstrates adherence to established dress code. Completes mandatory requirements: maintains current CPR and obtains TB testing per schedule. Obtains 5 CEUs a year

Qualifications

REQUIRED: MUST BE CST CERTIFIED OR ELIGIBLE TO SIT FOR THE CST EXAM BY COMPLETING PROGRAM 

CAAHEP* or ABHES* accredited during your enrollment.

EDUCATION:
Required:
High School diploma or equivalent, plus
Graduate of a School of Surgical Technology or equivalent military training with surgical technologist experience.

 

EXPERIENCE:
1 year or less in Surgical Technology field, Required

 

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING:
REQUIRED:
BLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider
CST (Certified Surgical Technologist) or Certification eligible. Certifications should come from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting. Must successfully sit and pass Certification examination with 12 months from employment hire/start date.
A Surgical Technologist hired prior to 12/31/2017 will have the certification requirement waived and be grandfathered. If the CST credential was held on 12/31/17, employee must maintain CST credential without lapse.
