Provides assistive patient care in the Operating Room under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse. This position serves the following patient age categories: neonatal, pediatrics, adolescent, adult and geriatric. Level IV practices above a level III advanced practitioner. Meets all of Level III criteria and demonstrates knowledge of practices around staff education and quality improvement initiatives. Assists Assistant Directors, OR Specialty Coordinators and RN III/IV in maintaining service?s needs. Is considered a global resource, a resource for highly complicated procedures that possess a skill level that is flexible and adaptive, about to work outside of specialty area (system/global focused). |

Assists with Surgical Process. Demonstrates table set ups and scrub techniques for complex procedures in and out of specialty. Anticipates specific instruments, checks equipment, and obtains supplies for upcoming schedule. Maintains asepsis throughout procedure; identifies and corrects breaks in technique. Demonstrates and educates principles of anatomy and physiology as related to basic and complex procedures. Demonstrates and educates safety practices as related to counts, sharps, positioning, specimens, and ESUs. Plan education for peer group -------------------------------------------------- Contributes to unit operations. Identifies and makes changes to preference lists. Recognizes and actively participates in quality assurance and improvement activities. Willingness to go to other specialties to broaden knowledge base. Coaches surgical team on the importance of universal precautions. Monitors, coaches, and holds others accountable to the dress code. Holds peers accountable to departmental objectives. Completes mandatory requirements to include: maintains current CPR, obtains TB testing per schedule. Recognizes selected data about the health status of the patient with the circulating nurse and surgeon. Observes patient and alerts surgical team to symptoms, reactions, and changes in patient's condition and coaches others to recognize status changes. Assists the RN with selected patient care interventions in a manner that is consistent with policies and procedures and offering coaching to new members of the surgical team. Consults physicians and acts upon needs/requirements preoperatively and postoperatively. Completes assigned task and without prompting seeks other departmental needs.
