Overview

Provides therapeutic services to psychiatric patients under Trauma Informed Care principles as directed by a Registered Nurse and according to the plan established by the treatment team.
Participates in department and team treatment programs via educational group and 1:1 interactions. This position serves psychiatric patients across the life span.
May have access to non-controlled medication storage areas on the patient care units if and only when their job responsibilities require that access, such as transferring non-controlled substance medications from one storage location site to another or when helping other licensed healthcare professionals retrieve non-controlled substance medications.

Responsibilities


Assist Registered Nurse and Treatment team with Milieu Management as follows: Manages supplies in line with guidelines to meet patient needs and budgetary constraints. Demonstrates knowledge of standards of care practice. Incorporates these into practice and holds self and others accountable for practicing according to these standards. Consistently preforms 15 minute safety check correctly with accurate documentation. Performs environmental rounds as required on each shift, with appropriate follow-up to RN and appropriate documentation. Ability to evaluate and appropriately respond to verbal and nonverbal communication from psychiatric patients across the life span. Demonstrates ability to escort psychiatric patients off unit or outside of BHH for appointments as required.

Participates in department treatment program as follows: Uses creativity to determine therapeutic interventions that will result in maximal patient outcome. Carries out therapeutic interventions that are for specific patient needs. Communicates barriers with team. Collaborate with patients and the treatment team to optimize activities and patient schedule. Supports safe, appropriate, effective and efficient patient care by providing accurate, thorough and timely documentation that consistently meets departmental requirements. Serves as an adult role model for all patients and peers. Advocates for patient needs. Assists with milieu management of department. Facilitates patient educational groups.

Provides patient care as delegated by the Registered Nurse as follows: Collaborates with Registered Nurse to plan and initiate appropriate interventions consistent with policies and procedures. Collects and communicates psychosocial data about health continuous manner. Includes patient and family in status of patient/family in a systematic and continuous manner. Includes patient and family in this process. Observes and reports symptoms, behaviors, and changes in patients condition in a timely manner. Initiates one-to one interactions with patients according to the milieu program. Maintains patient rights in accordance with North Carolina Patients Bill of Rights.

Qualifications


EDUCATION:
Required: High school graduate or equivalent. Successful completion of Nursing Assistant Certificate or Associate?s Degree in human service field preferred.

EXPERIENCE:
Required: A minimum of one year of experience in behavioral health field or health care field

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING:
REQUIRED
BLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider
Required:
STARR to be successfully completed within the first 30 days of hire date.
PREFERRED
Preferred:
Listed as a Nursing Aide I with the North Carolina Division of Facilities Services.
Certification through American Association of Psychiatric Technician: NCPT Certification Level I-II
