Overview

This position is accountable to work under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist and assist in the various activities of the pharmacy department in order to provide quality patient care for the following patient age categories: neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric, depending on the clinical setting. Student will gain technical experience by rotating through all areas of health system pharmacies.

Responsibilities


Prioritizes orders received in a timely manner and acts upon as required. May enter orders into computer dependent on departmental needs and assignments.

Fills and charges initial and stat medication orders promptly and accurately. Delivers promptly as requested.

Monitors and replenishes floor stock and emergency drugs/supplies to maintain adequate inventory.

Packages, compounds, and prepares medications aseptically using established techniques.
--------------------------------------------------
Fills and exchanges unit dose medication bins accurately and in a timely manner.

Performs record keeping, stocking, inventory control and replenishment promptly and accurately. Assists with manual charging of medications when necessary and strives for accuracy.

Establishes, maintains, and utilize knowledge of automated systems.

Student will attend P&T staff and other meetings while working on project and reviewing ADE reports.

The student will gain clinical experience in unit based services as well as ICU, Peds, ID, Cardiology, PICU and Nutritional Services.

Qualifications


EDUCATION:
High School Diploma or equivalent, Required
High School diploma or equivalent must include basic arithmetic, algebra, reading and writing, as well as some basic chemistry skills (ability to identify medications requiring specialized handling)
Must currently be enrolled in a doctor of pharmacy (PharmD) program and be in good standing.

EXPERIENCE:
One year of work experience preferred (pharmacy related experience is desired).

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING:
REQUIRED
Student Interns must be registered with the NC Board of Pharmacy within 30 days of hired date
