Under the direct supervision of the Recreation and Aquatics manager. The Lifeguard is responsible to provide a safe, sanitary environment that encourages members to use the Medical Fitness facility for fitness, relaxation and recreation to improve individual swimming and water safety skills. The need to be vigilant at all times is high in this position. Lifeguards must also possess the ability to work effectively under pressure and maintain excellent service standards with members and guests.

Responsibilities

 

 
Provides preventive lifeguard duties during open swim, lap swim, or scheduled programs. Guards from appropriate station (guard chair, pool side or roving station) with the best view of the pools and near the most at risk swimmers. Uses the sit, stand, and stroll method of guarding when appropriate. Enforces rules to prevent injury and create a positive member experience. Gets to know members aquatic needs and potential emergency concerns. Takes daily lap swim and Water Fitness attendance hourly ensuring the safety of all participants. Maintains personal swim skills and fitness level.
Never leaves the pool unattended during patron usage hours.

Provides all daily opening and closing procedures including but not limited to: chemical testing and reporting, managing pool space, keeping the pool deck swept and picked up, promoting programs, putting away and turning off all equipment and locking all doors at the end of the day.
Assists the aquatic department in maintaining equipment and cleanliness standards that adheres to organizational, The Joint Commission, OSHA and local health department standards.

Teaches quality swim lessons or leads quality programs by preparing daily lesson plans according to Red Cross or Medical Fitness department curriculum that are fun, goal-oriented, and time appropriate and takes daily attendance ensuring the safety of all participants

Qualifications

 

EDUCATION:
Preferred
High School Diploma or equivalent

 

EXPERIENCE:
Preferred
One year of previous lifeguarding experience.

 

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING:
Required
Current Red Cross Lifeguard Training certification. Current Red Cross CPR/AED and Standard First Aid or equivalent required.
Preferred
Current Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification.
AHA Health Care Provider BLS (CPR)
