Overview

Assesses, plans, implements, documents, organizes, prioritizes, and coordinates the care of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients according to treatment protocols, guidelines and procedures in accordance with North Carolina College of Emergency Physicians protocols set forth by the N.C. Office of EMS.

Responsibilities


Works with the Registered Nurse to develop, implement, and evaluate patient care based on protocols, procedures, policies, and provider orders. Demonstrates advanced competencies and critical thinking skills in day-to-day practice. CareLink Paramedics are expected to exercise considerable independent judgment in the development, implementation, and evaluation of Paramedic-level patient care based on transport treatment protocols, procedures and policies.

Qualifications


EDUCATION:
REQUIRED:
High School Diploma or equivalent
PREFERRED:
Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Emergency Medical Science or health-related field

EXPERIENCE:
REQUIRED:
CareLink Paramedic: Minimum 3 years EMS paramedic level or critical care transport experience for benefited position and 5 years of EMS paramedic level experience and 1 year of critical care transport experience for relief paramedics.
ED Paramedic: Minimum of 2 years of experience within the last 5 years or 1 year paramedic experience within the last 5 years with an Associate Degree or national certification.
Paramedic III or Critical Care Paramedic: Must meet and maintain annual requirements per the Professional Paramedic Advancement Program.
PREFERRED:
CareLink Paramedic: Prior critical care transport experience

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING:
REQUIRED:
BLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider
ACLS | Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support
ED & CareLink Paramedic:
Current valid NC EMT-Paramedic certification, verified through EMS Performance Improvement Center - Continuum
CareLink Paramedic only: Valid, licensed driver for a minimum of 5 years and hold a current valid driver's license with good driving history. MVR must be approved by Risk Management. Must complete Emergency Vehicle driving course if not already done.
PREFERRED:
PALS, TNCC or PHTLS or ITLS or TPATC, ENPC or PITLS, and NRP
National certification by International Board of Specialty Certification in FP-C or CCP-C
