Overview

The position provides leadership to clinical nutrition personnel to ensure compliance with departmental, organizational and regulatory standards. The position provides leadership to the registered dietitian team to ensure evidenced based nutrition care is provided across the stages of patient/resident development. This position provides leadership in the areas of staff development, clinical practice development, and research and quality improvement. The position is also responsible for the assessment of staff competency and employee performance appraisals. The position engages with the multi-disciplinary team and leadership to advocate, advise, and consult on nutrition related topics.

Responsibilities


Assesses inpatient menus for nutritional adequacy, compliance with diet manual and regulations. Coordinates menu revision and review with Nutritional Services. Approves inpatient menus. Works collaboratively with Nutritional Services in developing the inpatient menu program

Communicates, coordinates and represents clinical nutrition services throughout the Cone Health to promote and maintain effective working relationships with medical, nursing, and ancillary services. Collaboratively interacts with nursing and medical staff to communicate information re: clinical nutrition care of patients. Participates in presentation of information re: nutrition care processes and role of the dietitian. Provides education/clarification at meetings of other departments and medical staff, when requested.

Ensures that clinical nutrition policies, procedures & standards are in compliance with system-wide departmental, organizational and regulatory standards. Consistently reviews and identifies need for change in policies, procedures & standards provides timely feedback to staff on opportunities for improvement. Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Health System and Department policies & procedures as well as processes to assess/verify them.

Evaluate clinical nutrition practice for areas of responsibility. Leads nutrition practice into currently accepted standards. Consistently reviews and identifies appropriateness of clinical nutrition practice & provides timely feedback to staff on opportunities for improvement. Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Health System and Department policies & procedures as well as processes to assess/verify them.

Hires and oversees orientation, training, and ensures competency of staff. Coordinates training of dietetic interns in collaboration with schools of nutrition. Develops job descriptions and standards of performance for professional staff. Follows hiring policies and procedures and expedites the hiring, orienting and training of staff in a competent manner. Consistently reviews and updates job descriptions and standards of performance. Proactively identifies need for development of current and new job expectations for staff. Consistently communicates pertinent information to staff in a timely and accurate manner.

Supports quality improvement activities in partnership with the Regulatory Compliance Manager in Nutritional Services. Collaboratively interacts with appropriate Department staff regarding Department and Health System quality objectives and outcomes in a timely manner; provides ongoing education to ensure attainment of program goals and objectives. Participates in presentation of Department Program data or process at meetings of other departments when requested.

Supports the implementation of Cone Health•s strategic objectives for nutrition programs in collaboration with Nutritional Services and Leadership. Collaboratively interacts with appropriate Health System and Department leadership regarding goals and objectives related to improvement of delivery of Nutritional Services to patients, clients, customers and visitors. Represents clinical nutrition in carrying our departmental program goals.

Qualifications


EDUCATION:
Required:
Bachelor?s Degree in Nutrition or related field and ongoing professional education in specialty
Preferred:
Master?s degree in Nutrition or related field

EXPERIENCE:
Required:
1. 7 years of experience in clinical nutrition.
2. 2 ? 4 years management experience and/or clinical leadership of a team of registered dietitians
Preferred:
3 years of experience as Certified Nutrition Support Clinician

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING:
REQUIRED
Drivers License | Valid Drivers License
Required:
Certification as a Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist (RDN) as issued by the Commission on Dietetic Registration AND Licensure as a Dietitian/Nutritionist as issued by the NCBDN. Certification as a Nutrition Support Clinician
Preferred:
Certification as Nutrition Support Clinical (CNSC) as issued by the American Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition or other specialty training preferred.
PREFERRED
If driving Cone Health vehicle, must have 5 years of driving experience and MVR must be approved by Risk Management.
