Overview

This position is responsible for providing quality patient testing and education to patients within the Sleep Disorders Center. The position requires the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize and provide age specific care in the treatment, assessment, and education of pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.

Responsibilities


Administers Sleep Tests. Provides excellent customer service throughout the entire patient experience. Specifically helps put patients at ease during sleep lab encounter providing procedure orientation and education. Compassionately responds to any patient needs throughout the testing procedure. Perform patient hook-up per physician's orders, AASM criteria, International 10-20 measurement, and center standards. Knowledge and use of various montages including Parasomnia and full seizure montage. Proper lights off / lights on procedure with appropriate bio-calibrations.

Completes required documentation. Arrives patients and documents clinical encounters within the electronic medical record. Explain and collect pre/post study paperwork from patient. Charting observations and position within the acquisition. Maintains the list of completed studies ready for physician interpretation.

Continuing education. Keeps up to date in all areas of sleep testing by participating in regional/national conferences. Accumulates 10 CEC's per year towards sleep related activities. Uses latest literature to improve care for patients by recommending changes to departmental procedure and protocols. Willingly shares knowledge through inservices or case reviews with team to improve performance of others and the department. Monthly participation in AASM Interscorer Reliability program. Attendance and participation at department staff meetings.

Performs quality activities (Equipment, Facility, Patient Satisfaction). Equipment troubleshooting and documentation: consistently follows guidelines in equipment and facility maintenance, cleaning, and storage. Reports any equipment malfunction in an accurate, timely and safe manner while meeting regulatory requirements and according to policy. Monitors and maintains sleep supply levels/equipment. Willingly participates in departmental quality and patient satisfaction activities/surveys and returns surveys as requested.

Performs routine therapy modalities (CPAP Titration, BiPAP, BiPAP ST, ASV, IVAPS). Performs Split Night studies per orders and with insurance requirements in mind. Titrations performed per policy and procedures and at the instruction of medical director / ordering physician.

Scoring and analysis of sleep studies. Identifies sleep patterns and scores sleep/wake stages and EEG arousals per AASM standards, identifies respiratory events, identifies EKG and EMG events. Participates in monthly AASM Interscorer Reliability modules and passes each module with 80% passing rate. Ability to score studies during acquisition. Post study generation of statistical and interpretive report templates for the review and use of interpreting physicians.

Qualifications


EDUCATION:
High School Diploma or equivalent, Required
Associates, Preferred
Associate Degree in polysomnography, respiratory therapy or other health related field preferred.

EXPERIENCE:
Completed clinical rotation in polysomnography.
1 or more years of experience in a sleep disorders center, respiratory therapy or EEG.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING:
REQUIRED
BLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider
National: Registered by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologist as a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT),
AND
State: Registered by the North Carolina Medical Board as a Board Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (BRPT).
Must maintain current credentials on file.
