Overview

Responsible for maintaining an adequate inventory of supplies and equipment. Ensures a smooth distribution process of supplies and equipment to support the delivery of effective patient care. Provides basic patient care according to the skills and competency guidelines set by the N.C. Division of Facility Services and the North Carolina Board of Nursing, Nurse Aide Central Registry. Provides patient care under the supervision of the Nurse, reporting observations, and documenting within the scope of practice into the EMR. Works with System Wide Patient Care Support Manager and SW Patient Care Support Coordinator as point person for capital and non-capital special orders for Nursing operations.

Responsibilities


Patient Care Role
Obtains vital signs and reports findings to the patient?s responsible Registered Nurse. Assist the nurse and/or physician with procedures. Performs delegated procedures with scope of practice. Provides immediate treatment of injuries including immobilization, hemorrhage control, and infection control. Ensures that all specialty carts are clean, completely stocked and in working order on a daily basis (i.e. ENT, pelvic carts, suture). Establishes and implements plan by which all EMS equipment is returned to proper EMS system. Completes all work orders for maintenance and repair for equipment, ensures all equipment is clean and in good working order

Promotes a positive and efficient departmental atmosphere. Promotes patient satisfaction through personal interaction, meeting patient needs in a timely fashion. (Patient rounding as appropriate.). Provides a clean and comfortable environment for patients. Assists with lost or left behind patient belongings. Reports patient status, patient/family concerns or unsafe conditions, as occur. Responds to call lights/intercom/telephones. Directs questions and problems to appropriate person, recognizing the need to seek assistance when necessary. Provides assistance/support to patients and significant others. Assists with bed assignments, transfers and discharges. Monitors patient activity on and off unit. Collects non-controlled medications, distributing to appropriate licensed personnel on the unit. Observes Video Surveillance cameras. Communicates regarding equipment maintenance and repairs. Assists with maintaining a clean and safe environment.

ED Supply Control Coordinator Role
Collaborates with System Wide Patient Care Support manager, System Wide Patient Care Support Coordinator and the leadership team to identify and meet departmental needs. Coordinates the dispensing of medical equipment and supplies to staff. Orders and distributes supplies for the department. Monitors inventory, adjust PAR levels according to departmental needs. Rotates stock as needed so dated items will not reach expiration date. Assists in planning and delivering of new supplies and equipment. Communicates effectively both verbally and in writing with all members of the healthcare team. Maintains strong liaisons with ancillary services. Provides orientation of the supply room and distribution process to new staff. Participates in a quality improvement initiatives. Responds to Traumas and resuscitations by assisting with supply and equipment procurement.

Demonstrates personal accountability. Responds appropriately to emergency situations (Cone Health Codes) and demonstrates knowledge of how to respond. Adheres to National Patient Safety Goals (including compliance with Infection Prevention, Hand Hygiene, etc.). Always uses appropriate safety devices and techniques (examples: using safe lift equipment and needle safe devices; pushing carts; correctly lifting copy paper). Protects all confidential information and obeys all HIPAA regulations. Adheres to all organizational and departmental policies and procedures, including dress code and attendance. Documents time accurately using Kronos. Completes all departmentally required education, competencies, and/or proficiencies.

Demonstrates effective financial management when ordering supplies. Assists with the development of expense budgets. Serves as an advisor and resource regarding revenue, non-salary expenses, and capital items. Serves as liaison to the support services, with responsibility for identifying and helping resolve systematic service issues. Reviews instances of problems on a periodic basis to understand systematic issues. Assists appropriate persons/groups in designing systems for appropriate delivery patient care services.

Qualifications


EDUCATION:
High School Diploma or equivalent, Required
Graduate of an EMT program preferred.
Some college or combination of work experience, including training and education preferred

EXPERIENCE:
2 years working in a Healthcare setting, required
Experience working Emergency Department setting, preferred
Knowledge of patient care equipment and supplies, preferred
