Overview

Talent Pool: Nursing 
The Trauma Clinical Coordinator (TCC) will assist with the development, implementation and management of the performance improvement plan for Cone Health?s ? Moses Cone Hospital?s Level II Trauma Center. This role will ensure the Trauma Program meets ongoing regulatory compliance to maintain American College of Surgeons verification and NCOEMS designation.

 

Responsibilities

 

 
Develops, implements, and coordinates performance improvement initiatives for the Trauma Center:
Assists TPM with development of trauma performance improvement plan based on Cone Health, American College of Surgeons, and North Carolina Office of EMS guidelines.
Monitors all performance improvement standards including: issue identification, issue validation, and current PI filters (ie: Deaths, Transfers, Readmission w/in 30 days, Failure to initiate/follow Trauma-MTP, etc.)
Participates/facilitates trauma performance improvement forums, including: multidisciplinary rounds, Trauma Quality Council, Trauma Physician Panel, Trauma Service Committee, etc.
Collects, prepares, and analyzes registry data for trends in trauma patient care, trauma process issues and/or provider-specific data (OPPE)
Develops and maintains documentation of performance improvement activities in collaboration with other Trauma Services staff & pre-hospital providers:
Assures documentation of follow-up/intervention/loop closure on patient care issues/process issues identified.
Evaluates documentation of the trauma care process for efficacy, quality, safety, and effectiveness of Standards and Protocols.
Participates in daily rounds, bi-weekly rounds, and completes any necessary documentation / follow-up.
Collaborates with physicians and other health care professionals to facilitate the documentation of performance improvement activities.
Assures effective performance improvement activities.
Collaborates with TPM, Trauma Medical Director and Associate Medical Director to develop and maintain PI Plan.
Assures staff educated on Performance Improvement initiatives and quality metrics, including chart audit results, benchmarking reports, etc.
Develops/maintains system for communicating PI outcomes and patient satisfaction results to staff.
Participates in patient care.
Functions as an expert practitioner who provides for the clinical needs of trauma patients, both directly and indirectly, throughout the hospital stay.
Acts as a consultant, providing expertise in trauma care to nurses, pre-hospital providers and other health care professionals.
Develops nursing standards of care for trauma patients in collaboration with appropriate disciplines.
Facilitates feedback to referral hospitals regarding patient transferred to Cone Health.
Coaches Emergency Department staff during select trauma episodes.
Identifies and participates in trauma research activities, integrating research findings into clinical practice.
Sets quality standards and educates on best practices in Trauma patient care.
Provides assistance in monitoring and revision of clinical standards, policies, procedures, and protocols related to trauma care.
Collaborates with nursing staff in designated departments to conduct chart audits and ensures trauma nursing competencies are current.
Facilitates monthly Multidisciplinary Trauma Committees (TQC, TSC)?
Assists with ACS/NCOEMS site visit preparations
Tracks reporting year chart per category and ensures loop closure and follow-up items closed.
Prepares trauma nursing departments for trauma reviewers and tour
Maintains trauma quality metrics for performance measure, outcomes and volumes each month
Updates/revises Performance Improvement plan to meet current practices
Collaborates with and participates in state trauma activities
Assists with providing feedback to member hospitals, EMS agencies, RACs, and providers
Collaborates with Registrars and IP Coordinator to analyze data to identify regional and community needs and goals to meet the needs.
Attend state trauma meetings as a representative of Cone Health ? Moses Cone Hospital
Demonstrates personal accountability.
Maintains and shares knowledge of clinical/managerial practice, issues, trends and technology
Participates in and provides leadership for meetings, task forces and committees;
Demonstrates appropriate use of universal precautions and personal protective equipment.
Demonstrates relevant department competencies.
Maintains current licensure.
Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Collaborates with co-workers to accomplish department / program objectives.

Qualifications

 

EDUCATION:
Required: Graduate of RN educational program, BSN required.
Master's degree preferred.

 

EXPERIENCE:
Three years RN clinical practice in emergency and/or critical care nursing required.
Trauma experience preferred.

 

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING:
Current, valid NC RN license required. TCRN, CCRN or CEN/PCEN preferred.
Heart Saver and Health Care provider CPR certification required; ACLS preferred.
