Overview

Cone Health Cancer Center is seeking a Certified Genetic Counselor.  This position is a full-time role (40 hours), with 24 of those hours in the cancer genetic program at Cone Health Cancer Center and the other 16 hours per week within the UNCG genetic counseling program. This position would join a robust cancer practice with four full-time genetic counselors across two primary sites. The cancer genetics program is a busy clinic seeing patients referred from the oncology program and the community who are at risk for hereditary cancer syndromes.  This position would also assist the UNCG genetic counseling training program.  Responsibilities with UNCG include but are not limited to co-development and supervision of a student-led genetic counseling clinic, teaching within the genetic counseling program and other administrative process.

 

The Genetics Counselor Certified works within a team setting as well as autonomously to provide genetic counseling services, education and support to patients and families. This position reviews family histories and determines eligibility for genetic testing to assess patients' risk for a variety of inherited conditions and provides patients and families with support in making decisions based on genetic test results. This position also serves as a reference to staff and provides educational opportunities for the community, students and other healthcare professionals.

Responsibilities

 

 
Provides genetic counseling services by assessing, planning and managing medical, psychological and social problems for a variety of indications.
Works effectively within a team, or autonomously, to help achieve patient and departmental metrics.
Shows competency in skills and knowledge when facing novel situations and remains receptive to input from others.
Creates, plans and implements educational opportunities for community members and healthcare professionals.
Models clinical expectations while supervising and training genetic counseling graduate students, other professional students and interested genetic counseling applicants.
Volunteers and participates within the organization's local genetic counseling community and the larger community through professional state and national organizations.
Continues to gather appropriate Continuing Education Units for certification and licensure maintenance.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

 

EDUCATION:
Required: Master's Degree in Genetic Counseling

 

EXPERIENCE:
Required: At least 2 years of experience in Genetic Counseling

 

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING:
Required: Genetic Counseling Board certification
