Overview

The Pulmonary Technologist Registered sets up and runs respiratory tests on patients to check for lung diseases or disorders. Working under general supervision, this role documents test results to help doctors diagnose and treat a variety of conditions, including asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), cystic fibrosis, and other lung diseases.

Responsibilities


Performs a variety of pulmonary function testings, including spirometry, lung volume measurements, diffusion capacity tests, and bronchial provocation tests to evaluate pulmonary status and diagnose medical conditions.
Operates, monitors and calibrates diagnostic and therapeutic equipment that measures lung volumes, diffusion capacity, peak inspiratory/expiratory pressures, and airway hyperactivity.
Records and documents patient information and test results to provide to doctors for evaluation.
Helps patients understand instructions before a test begins so they can help provide accurate test results.
Reviews test procedures with patients and answers questions about what they will experience during the test to ensure comfort and cooperation.
Shares test results and comprehensive reports in collaborative discussions with the healthcare team to diagnose and manage respiratory conditions.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications


EDUCATION:
Required: High School Diploma or equivalent; Graduate of an accredited program for Respiratory Therapy

EXPERIENCE:
Required: 3 years of clinical experience

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING:
Required: Registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care as a RRT; Licensed by the North Carolina Respiratory Care Board as a CRT or RRT; BLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider; ACLS-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider
