Overview

The Pharmacy Technician works under the close supervision of a registered pharmacist and performs a variety of tasks including but not limited to aseptic compounding activities required to dispense IV compounding prescriptions, and/or recording medication histories, and/or, performing activities required to receive, dispense, and deliver non-controlled and controlled medications to provide quality, safe patient care.

Responsibilities

Prepares, distributes, and disposes of medication in compliance with current standards under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist and/or interviews patients to obtain an accurate and complete medication history based on organization standards and/or compounds hazardous and non-hazardous IV medications.

Navigates electronic medical records to gather pertinent information to assist with pharmacy activities.

Operates pharmacy systems technology and automation to assist with medication preparation.

Completes medication regulatory and compliance activities.

Communicates effectively with other health care professionals to deliver high-quality customer service.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications


EDUCATION:
Required: High School Diploma or equivalent

EXPERIENCE:
Required: 1 year work experience (pharmacy experience preferred but not required)

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING:
Required: Pharmacy Technician certification through PTCB or NHA prior to hire. Registered with the NC Board of Pharmacy within 30 days of hire.
