Overview

A Nerve Conduction Technologist assists with performing neurodiagnostic tests including nerve conduction studies to assess the function and integrity of the peripheral nerves and muscles. Working under close supervision, this role supports educating and preparing patients for electromyography (EMG) procedures and works closely with physicians to aid in the accurate diagnosis and monitoring of neurological disorders and conditions to ensure the design of effective treatment plans for patients.

Responsibilities


Helps conduct routine studies to assess brain activity to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of neurological disorders, including epilepsy and sleep disorders.
Assists with performing Brainstem Evoked Potential (BAER) and Visual Evoked Potential tests to evaluate specific sensory pathways and identify abnormalities in the nervous system.
Faxes dictated Nerve Conduction Reports to referring physicians daily to ensure timely communication and collaboration for accurate diagnoses and treatment plans.
Maintains well-calibrated equipment and a sanitized work environment, and stocks all neurodiagnostic supplies to promote patient safety and infection control and support the smooth workflow of neurodiagnostic procedures.
Supports conducting various Nerve Conduction Studies, such as Blink Reflex studies and Repetitive Nerve Stimulation, to comprehensively assess nerve function and aid in diagnosing conditions affecting the peripheral nervous system.
Educates and prepares patients regarding Nerve Conduction Velocity (NCV) studies and EMG to foster patient understanding and cooperation during procedures for improved diagnostic outcomes.
Provides support and education to new employees as necessary to promote a cohesive and knowledgeable team that delivers high-quality neurodiagnostic services.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications


EDUCATION:
Required: High School Diploma or equivalent

EXPERIENCE:
Required: 1 Year conduction nerve conduction studies

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING:
Required: BLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider, Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA)/Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) required from one of the following: American Associate of Medical Assistants (AAMA), American Medical Technologists (AMT), National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), National Healthcareer Association (NHA), American Registry of Medical Assistants (RMA), National Healthcare Worker's Association (NHCWA), National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP), National Registry of Medical Assistants (NRMA).
