Overview: The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) provides specialized care to patients with mental health conditions in collaboration with a psychiatrist(s). The APP assesses patients, interprets diagnostic test/results, and develops and implements treatment plans to address the patient's unique needs in collaboration with other healthcare professionals.
Responsibilities: The APP role requires a high level of clinical expertise and the ability to work with patients who may have complex mental health needs. Psychiatric care can include both Inpatient and the outpatient setting as full time, part time and/or relief at one or more of several behavioral health facilities within the Cone Health system.
Qualifications: North Carolina Board of Nursing Nurse Practitioner License. Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner certification preferred. Physician Assistant-Certified and current North Carolina Medical Board License. One to three years’ experience + in an inpatient and/or outpatient psychiatric setting strongly preferred.

Performs physical assessments of the patient, reviews their medical history, and interprets diagnostic tests/results in order to provide effective treatment for the patient. Conducts preventive health screenings based on the patient's age, history, and unique needs to provide proactive health care. Educates patients and their family about psychiatric medical conditions, treatment, and follow-up. Maintains record of all patient care in order to ensure accurate patient history. Performs psychiatric medical procedures in accordance with departmental guidelines and clinical roles. Identifies ways to improve psychiatric patient care by assessing, problem-solving, and evaluating clinical and system issues. Performs other duties as assigned. |
EDUCATION: |
Required: Master Degree Nursing or Master Degree Physician Assistant studies. Physician Assistant employed at Cone Health prior to October 14, 2024 with a Bachelor Degree will have the Master Degree requirement waived provided they have maintained employment and PA licensure with Board Certification. |
