Overview

Healthcare Administration & Operations Intern (North and East Markets)

Location: East Region – Alamance Regional Medical Center
Department: Administration

Reports To: Vice President of Operations

 

The Healthcare Administration and Operations Intern will gain hands-on experience in healthcare management by supporting administrative leadership on key strategic initiatives and operational improvement projects that support Cone Health's north and east markets. The intern will contribute to cross-functional projects that impact clinical and non-clinical departments at Alamance Regional Medical Center and/or Annie Penn Hospital, helping streamline workflows, analyze performance, and enhance care delivery through operational excellence.

 

This internship position is a time-limited, temporary position with a start date and orientation on 9/15/25. The total number of hours that an intern can work during this timeframe is 250 hours.

 

 

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Assist with the coordination and execution of strategic projects related to healthcare delivery, patient flow, support services, and system operations.
  • Conduct data collection, research, and analysis to support business decisions across departments.
  • Develop dashboards, presentations, and reports that summarize project progress and outcomes for senior leadership.
  • Support administrative teams in optimizing departmental performance, workflow redesign, and policy implementation.
  • Participate in meetings with operational leaders and contribute to planning and follow-up efforts.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings, efficiency, or improved patient/staff satisfaction using Lean or Six Sigma principles.
  • Shadow healthcare executives and attend governance, planning, and operational review meetings as appropriate.
  • Provide administrative support such as scheduling, documentation, and process mapping as needed.
 

Qualifications

 

EDUCATION:
  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s in Public Health, Business Administration, or a related field.

 

EXPERIENCE:
  • Strong interest in healthcare systems management, operational strategy, or performance improvement.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word); experience with data tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, or Visio) a plus.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team setting with multiple stakeholders.
