The Maternal Fetal Monitoring Sonographer Lead provides general supervision and evaluation of MFM sonography staff, ensuring adherence to regulatory and professional standards to aid in the diagnosis, monitoring, and management of pregnancies and related medical conditions. Working under limited supervision, this position oversees the utilization of high frequency sound waves along with color and spectral Doppler ultrasound to assist in the monitoring and growth during pregnancy. With strong leadership skills and extensive knowledge of ultrasound equipment and procedures, the Perinatal Sonographer Lead facilitates a smooth and efficient workflow, contributing to accurate diagnoses and optimal patient care outcomes. |
Oversees the performance of routine and special ultrasound examinations following established protocols in Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM), OBGYN practices and Radiology to ensure accurate and comprehensive diagnostic imaging. Supervises daily operations, staff schedules, workflow, and patient services/care to ensure smooth workflow, optimal resource allocation, and a patient-centered environment. Manages the completion all exams and documentation consistently in Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS), and the Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN) reporting system to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, support quality assurance, and facilitate accurate retrieval and interpretation of patient records. Reviews records of all charges associated with exams, proactively addressing errors and resolving issues related to the final product sent to PACS to promote financial integrity and billing accuracy. Demonstrates commitment to safe practices, a positive culture, and adherence to ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) principles to minimize risks, prevent errors, and ensure the wellbeing of patients and staff. Collaborates with department leadership to ensure completion of employee time sheets in time entry system, accurate payroll processing and effective resource allocation. Coaches and trains OBGYN Sonographers, ensures competency completion of sonographers and engages team to achieve and support departmental goals and objectives. Performs other duties as assigned. |
EDUCATION: |
Required: Associates Degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography from a school that is accredited by CAAHEP (Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs) |

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING: |
Required: Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (RDMS) credential with an OB-GYN specialty through Association of Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographers American Institute of Ultrasound Medicine (AIUM) membership is required and must be maintained for compliance with AIUM accreditation. |
