The Surgical Technologist III supports the Registered Nurse (RN) with patient care in the operating room by preparing the table setup and scrub techniques for complex procedures. Working under limited supervision, this role works to utilize advanced field knowledge to educate other team members and create a sterile environment for patients. |
Supports the surgical process through checking equipment and supply levels and setting up table and scrub techniques to prepare for complex procedures maintaining sterile technique. Utilizes advanced knowledge of basic and advanced surgical procedures and safety procedures to educate less senior Surgical Technologists. Communicates effectively to distribute patient information with surgical teams. Assists with increasing resource efficiency, decreasing costs, and improving care quality with other Surgical Technologists. Documents patient symptoms and reactions in order to communicate with the Registered Nurse (RN) and alter treatment plans as needed. Precepts team members and assists with department education. Assist/scrub in 3 or more surgical specialties if in a surgical services department. Performs other duties as assigned. |
EDUCATION: |
Required: High School Diploma or equivalent; Graduate of a Surgical Technology accredited through ARC/STSA or equivalent military training with surgical tech experience |
EXPERIENCE: |
Required: 3 years as a surgical technologist |
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING: |
Required: BLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider CST (Certified Surgical Technologist). Certifications should come from The Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting. Surgical Technologists hired prior to 12/31/2017 will have the certification requirement waived. If the CST credential was held on 12/31/17, credential must be maintained without lapse. |
