Overview

The Dermatology/Mohs Technician work directly alongside board certified dermatologic surgeons assisting with complex surgical procedures, specimen processing, wound care, patient coordination, and clinical workflow. The Dermatology/Mohs Technician is cross trained for General, Surgical, and Cosmetic Dermatology practices.

Responsibilities


1. Assists the Mohs Micrographic Surgeon/Dermatology provider with procedures including but not limited to skin biopsies, Mohs surgical layers, reconstructive surgery and consultations scheduled prior to procedures.
2. Obtains pre-visit patient information, consent forms, and provides education to patients and family members of the Mohs Surgical process and what to expect throughout the day. Relays pertinent information to the Mohs Micrographic Surgeon prior to surgery.
3. Educates patients and families members about post-operative care in accordance with Mohs Micrographic Surgeon?s instructions and answers any follow-up questions with patience and compassion.
4. Provide patients with follow-up appointments as needed, answer myChart or office voicemail patient questions, relay biopsy results, manage biologic therapies, and confers with surgeons regarding additional post-Mohs patient care.
5. Maintains surgical patient photographs, Mohs Micrographic Surgeon Tumor Log and Referring Provider Thank You Letters using Epic EMR post-Mohs surgical data and Mohs Histology Technician data.
6. Maintain and clean the surgery/dermatology suites by stocking rooms, preparing supplies instruments before and after procedures, observing & reporting surgical equipment needs.
Upon completion of required skills competency validation:
Ensures that sterile equipment is not brought in contact with unsterile items or surfaces so that asepsis is maintained.
Completes the basic scrub duties and table set-ups for procedures to provide a sterile and prepared environment for surgery.
Gathers supplies and checks equipment to ensure that the necessary materials are prepared for surgery.
Maintains examination rooms and sterilizes and cleans equipment
7. Chart for patient visits within General, Surgical, and Cosmetic Dermatology.

Qualifications


EDUCATION:
Required: High School Diploma or GED with required experience Preferred: Bachelors? Degree in science related discipline or Surgical Technologist Diploma
After hire, must complete organization competency validation for sterile field and surgical instrument sterilization

EXPERIENCE:
Required:
High School Diploma or GED requires three years of experience as a Medical Assistant, Nursing Assistant, or related experience in a clinical support role.
Associate Degree in Clinical field of study or Surgical Technologist Diploma OR a Bachelor?s Degree does not require prior experience.
Preferred: This role is designed for those pursuing pathways such as medical school, physician assistant (PA) programs, nursing, physical therapy (PT), or other advanced clinical professions

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING:
Certified Dermatology Tech (CDT) by The Association of Certified Dermatology Techs within 6 months of hire.
