The Supervisor Sterile Processing reviews that medical equipment and instruments are properly sterilized in order to comply with safety standards and provide quality patient care. This role ensures that decontamination procedures follow appropriate policies and any sterilization malfunctions are reported effectively. |
Reviews that instrument sets, trays, and packaged items are sterilized correctly in order to ensure safe patient care. Ensures cleaning and decontaminating instruments and equipment are occurring according to department policies and manufacturer's recommendations while using standard precautions procedures to ensure safety. Ensures that standard precautions in handling contaminated items or instruments are followed by team members. Monitors Instrument sharpening schedules and sends items out for repair. Examines and records results of sterilization with every cycle completely and accurately to ensure compliance with safety procedures. Prepares reports of any positive results or sterilization malfunctions to appropriate leadership in a timely manner to ensure a proper resolution. Manages resources efficiently and works with team members to reduce costs and improve quality. Oversees training and education of team members to ensure that all safety procedures are understood and followed. Performs other duties as assigned. |
EDUCATION: |
Required: High School Diploma or equivalent |
EXPERIENCE: |
Required: 5 years of experience in Sterile Processing or as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST)/Surgical Technologist (ST) 3 years of recent experience as a supervisor or serving in a management capacity |
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING: |
Required: Will accept any one of the following credentials: Certified Central Sterile Technician (CRCST), Certified Surgical Technologist (CST), or Sterile Processing Technician (CSPDT) |
