The dietitian has responsibility for individualized medical nutrition therapy for patients/residents within Cone Health. The position requires application of professional knowledge of clinical nutrition and may serve patients in the age categories of neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric. Complete nutritional assessments of patients and document results using the Nutrition Care Process and the Nutrition Focused Physical Exam. Calculate patients? nutritional needs based on accepted Standards of Care. Make decisions independently with occasional input from RDIII, Lead Registered Dietitian or Clinical Nutrition Manager. -------------------------------------------------- Plan and document Medical Nutrition Therapy for patients in conjunction with the multidisciplinary plan of care and the incorporation of expertise in the area of metabolic support associated with area of specialty. -------------------------------------------------- Initiate nutrition interventions. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of nutrition interventions. Document the achievement of measurable nutrition goals. Review Standards of Care yearly in area of specialty and update as needed. Take the lead to direct change in standard clinical nutrition therapy in area of specialty in order to enhance patient outcomes based on current evidence. -------------------------------------------------- Assess needs in area of specialty and develop and complete project(s) negotiated with Clinical Nutrition Manager. -------------------------------------------------- Active member or leader of hospital committee that is related to area of specialty. Participate in quality improvement activities within the clinical nutrition team, the nutritional services department and other areas of the health system. -------------------------------------------------- Serve as a nutrition resource to departmental and organizational staff in the area of specialty. Mentor RDI, update all RD staff on evidence-based practice associated with area of specialty in order to support staff skills and competency. Present a case study yearly in area of specialty. Precept dietetic interns and nutrition students. -------------------------------------------------- Participate in continuing education activities that enhance the delivery of medical nutrition therapy. Prepare summarization of concepts learned and present to clinical nutrition team. Proactively seek the latest information regarding medical nutrition therapy in area of specialty. Lead Journal Club yearly. Complete 15 CPEUs per year. -------------------------------------------------- |
EDUCATION: |
Required: Bachelor?s Degree in Nutrition or related field and ongoing professional education in specialty. Preferred: Master?s degree in Nutrition or related field |
EXPERIENCE: |
Required: Greater than or equal to 4 years in clinical nutrition, 3 years of clinical time devoted to area of specialty. Professional membership in Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and specialty area DPG. |
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING: |
REQUIRED Valid Driver's License | Valid Driver's License BLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider Required: Certification as a Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist (RDN) by the Commission on Dietetic Registration AND Licensure as a Dietitian/Nutritionist (LDN) by the NCBDN AND Certification in specialty or formal training in specialty if certification not available.
