Overview

The cook is responsible for preparing and/or directing the preparation of food to be served for the cafe, tray line and dining room. All tasks are to be completed following the chefs exact specifications. Compliance with all applicable sanitation, health and personal hygiene standards and following established food production programs and procedures is a must. The cook is responsible for appropriate use of facility supplies and equipment.

Responsibilities


Accurately calculates needed quantities of recipe ingredients to ensure that production is correct and meets basic needs as well as attractive arrangement of food on plates to look appetizing and compliant with portion sizes.

Follows established procedures for the storage of food, supplies and equipment. Minimize food waste and maintain sanitary food preparation.

Follows standard recipes and utilize specified preparation techniques so as to comply with diet requirements and when needed, provide compliant food substitutions where applicable.

Maintains an awareness of the chain of command and the supervisor or manager on duty and complies with their supervision and lead.

Operates, utilized and maintains equipment in accordance with the department or manufacturers specifications so that no damage or excessive wear and tear occurs due to a failure to comply.

Organizes time and priorities so that assigned activities are complete within designated time frames in relation to a healthcare setting.

Participates in performance improvement program to enhance the quality of service.

Sets up or breaks down food service areas as required.

Qualifications


EDUCATION:
Required: High School Diploma or 3-5 years of cook experience

Preferred:

Associates in Culinary Arts

EXPERIENCE:
3 - 5 years' experience, Required

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING:
REQUIRED
