Plans, integrates, controls, and evaluates human, material, and fiscal resources required to provide pharmacy services. Provides leadership in establishing standards, goals, and direction for pharmacy services/programs. Facilitates, coordinates, and manages staff, material, and financial resources to achieve pharmaceutical, distribution and consultative services which support nursing and medical management of patient care. Ensures implementation of hospital and pharmacy standards and employee competencies. This position serves the following patient age categories: pediatrics, adolescents, and adults.

1. Assures an effective system for management of human resources.

Anticipates, evaluates, and determines human resources needs for department services.

Assures human resource functions meet organizational guidelines (involving recruiting, hiring, scheduling, and disciplinary processes).

Maintains system for evaluating staff performance in accordance with organizational and professional guidelines. Facilitates and develops effective work teams.

Manages retention and turnover rate to meet organizational objectives.

Develops and maintains an environment that supports learning and professional development.

2. Assures departmental pharmacy services meet organizational goals and objectives.

Identifies and develops departmental goals and objectives utilizing trend data with customer and staff input.

Develops and maintains an ongoing department organizational structure to meet program goals. Evaluates staffing and educational resources to meet department and institutional goals.

Maintains and assures compliance with departmental policies and procedures.

Effectively represents the pharmacy department on interdepartmental collaborative teams and committees. Helps foster and develop a collaborative culture across health system pharmacies.

Ensures department/program compliance with The Joint Commission standards, state/federal regulations and community/national standards.

3. Implements effective performance improvement activities. Evaluates and ensures safe, effective medication use processes.

Ensures medication procurement policies are followed and proactively addresses medication shortages. Evaluates and develops the department performance improvement plan.

Communicates performance improvement outcomes and customer satisfaction results to staff. Evaluates, develops, and implements plans to enhance customer satisfaction.

4. Demonstrates effective financial management. Assists in the development of the annual budget.

Performs variance analysis and develops action plan to ensure targets are met.

Evaluates and recommends department cost-containment activities in accordance with system initiatives. Provides opportunities for cost savings.

Strategically plans and prepares for capital needs.

5. Provides leadership for and personally demonstrates Cone Health values of caring for our patients, our coworkers and our community. Keeps what is best for the patient at the center of all decision making.

6. Demonstrates personal accountability.

Maintains and shares knowledge of clinical/managerial practice, issues, trends and technology.

Participates in and provides leadership for meetings, task forces and committees; completes assignments per/ahead of schedule.

Directs and leads staff to focus on and achieve patient satisfaction.

Demonstrates appropriate use of universal precautions and personal protective equipment. Demonstrates relevant department competencies.

Maintains current licensure.




BS Pharmacy or PharmD degree


Master's degree in pharmacy, business, or other health-related discipline



Three years of progressive leadership experience in hospital pharmacy.


Prior management experience.

ASHP-accredited residency.



Licensed to practice pharmacy in North Carolina. (Must be licensed in NC within 2 months of date of hire.) Valid Driver's License
