Assumes leadership role in problem solving activities, policy, interpretation and enforcement and compliance with standards. Accountable for the direction and monitoring of the overall operation of the laboratory activities and staff to ensure quality, production, and accreditation standards are met consistently. Provides guidance and assistance to staff on procedures, troubleshooting and problem solving. -------------------------------------------------- Accountable for educating and enforcing the policies relating to the appropriate collection, handling, testing, resulting, investigation, corrective action and development of procedures for specimen testing required by accrediting agencies. Ensures policies and procedures are followed by staff. Ensures training of new staff and retraining as needed. Ensures staff competency for designated test systems are completed by due date. -------------------------------------------------- Accountable for human resource functions including performance evaluations and coaching/counseling. Rounds in the department and with staff on a routine basis. Assumes responsibility for day-to-day activities required for effective flow of care of the phlebotomy and processing teams. -------------------------------------------------- Actively participates in the financial management of the site or department. Provides input to the director for the necessary financial operations of budgeting, evaluating, monitoring, and implementing corrective action. Utilizes labor management tools effectively. Reviews processes to improve efficiency and reduce costs. Actively works to achieve the departmental and organizational financial goals. -------------------------------------------------- Ensures compliance with all regulatory standards (CLIA, CAP, TJC, FDA, AABB). Maintains current knowledge of regulatory standards in relation to the scope of testing. Active participant in accreditation surveys. Ensures staff adherence with all regulatory, safety, and corporate compliance requirements. -------------------------------------------------- Oversees lab safety program by managing activities to support the laboratory/organizational safety and loss prevention culture and meets laboratory system/facility goals for safety and loss prevention. -------------------------------------------------- Responsible for payroll functions and payroll timekeeping -------------------------------------------------- Responsible for staffing plans/staffing schedule -------------------------------------------------- |
EDUCATION: |
Bachelor's degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, or chemical, physical, or medical laboratory science. OR Bachelor's degree in chemical, physical or biological science with a minimum of 60 semester hours specifically including, 6 hours of Chemistry, 6 hours of Biology and 12 additional hours in any combination of Chemistry, Biology, or medical Laboratory Technology. Transcript with degree indicated must be provided and evaluated by laboratory leadership prior to offer. OR a "Diploma" in Medical Technology, obtained prior to April 24, 1995, may be considered. EXPERIENCE: |
Required: Minimum of 4 years of laboratory training and experience in a high complexity laboratory in designated specialty or subspecialty. One to two years supervisory experience. Preferred: Two to four years supervisory or leadership experience preferred |

REQUIRED Required: Certification by a nationally recognized agency - ASCP (American Society of Clinical Pathologists) certification - Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Scientist, - NCA (National Certification Agency) certification - Clinical Laboratory Scientist, - AMT (American Medical Technologist) certification - Medical Technologist, OR - HEW (Health, Education, and Welfare) certification - Medical Technologist.
