The HIM CDI Manager assists the Associate Director of HIM in managing assigned staff and interacts on a daily basis with each campus/site to ensure all activities are being completed appropriately and in a timely manner. The manager and staff work with the members of the medical and dental staff by helping to improve the overall quality and completeness of clinical documentation through review of concurrent documentation. The manager and staff collaborate with coding staff and members of medical and dental staff in order to improve electronic capture of diagnoses and procedures that most accurately reflect the severity of illness and risk of mortality as well as impacting DRG accuracy and assignment. The HIM CDI Manager must regularly review and utilize data from internal and external sources to report CDI impact on specific hospital measures and department goals. The HIM CDI Manager recognizes need for, and assumes, front-line staffing functions as required. Organizes and implements orientation for new hires. Provides routine follow up with staff members on performance and progress. The HIM CDI Manager must have knowledge of both ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS.
