NORTH CAROLINA –Pediatric Faculty Position. The Pediatric Teaching Program at Cone Health, a community teaching hospital in Greensboro, NC, affiliated with the University of North Carolina (UNC) at Chapel Hill, seeks an academic hospitalist/general pediatrician to join its expanding full-time faculty of 11 physicians.
The role is that of clinician-educator to residents and students in three clinical venues: attending physician leading a team of pediatric and family medicine trainees on an 18-bed pediatric ward, attending for well term and late preterm babies in newborn nursery with over 6200 deliveries per year, and preceptor in the resident acute care clinic. Typically, there are a total of 16 shifts per month, which includes at-home call approximately 5 times a month. Other responsibilities include didactic teaching, mentoring, and quality improvement projects. There are no delivery responsibilities.
The teaching service interacts closely with pediatric Intensivists who cover a 4-bed PICU, pediatric emergency physicians, in-house neonatologists who staff a 45-bed NICU in a newly opened state-of-the-art Women’s and Children’s Hospital, pediatric subspecialists, and an ambulatory clinic that serves as the home site for the UNC Pediatric Primary Care Residency. Both the inpatient ward and newborn nursery are supported by nurse practitioners.
The ideal candidate will be BC/BE in Pediatrics or Med/Peds, possess outstanding clinical skills and teaching expertise. Board certification in pediatric hospital medicine is not required. The FTE is flexible to meet the needs of the program and applicant. Applicants are eligible for a faculty appointment at the UNC School of Medicine, Department of Pediatrics at the assistant or associate professor level. There are opportunities for clinical, QI, and administrative leadership roles.

The purpose of this position is to register all patients needing services. The role is responsible for obtaining accurate and complete demographic, financial, and medical information. The person performing this role anticipates and acts on the needs of our customers to enhance the patient experience. The hours for this role are Monday-Friday, 3:00 PM - 11:00 PM.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Engages patients throughout the registration process to create a welcoming and positive patient experience.
- Appropriate patient identification.
- Collecting accurate and thorough patient demographic data.
- Obtaining insurance information and verifying eligibility and benefits.
- Determining and collecting patient financial liability.
- Referring patients to a Patient Financial Resource Specialist as needed for assistance with financial counseling.
- Patient Registration and Financial Clearance completed at the bedside within an emergency care setting.
Provides basic patient care according to the skills and competency guidelines set by the N.C. Division of Facility Services and the North Carolina Board of Nursing, Nurse Aide Central Registry. Provides patient care under the supervision of the Nurse, reporting observations, and documenting within the scope of practice into the EMR. May have access to non-controlled medication storage areas on the patient care areas if and only when their job responsibilities require that access, such as transferring non-controlled substance medications from one storage location site to another or when helping other licensed healthcare professionals retrieve non-controlled substance medications.

Safely transport patients by bed, stretcher or wheelchair to from ancillary departments and patient care areas throughout the hospital. Responds in a timely manner to requests to move/transport other patient related items. Consistently provides superior customer service.
